Camp for Rivne teenagers

In June 11-14 our workers from Rivne did a camp for Rivne teenagers in “Sokolyni Gory”. 22 students of Educational complex #12 had a chance to be in camp and were really happy and impressed by this camp trip. Three days we had an opportunity to talk on urgent topics – “Me and my friends” on the first day, “Me and my family” on the second day, and “Me and God” on the third day. The students were really impressed and delighted. To judge from their feedbacks we can say that this time was not spent in vain for them and we could reach the aims we set. Here some of their feedbacks.

Story of Hope

Three persons from "New Hope" church in Uzhgorod were baptised last week. Norby was one of them. The young man took part in our school programs, then visited Christian camp and invited Jesus into his life. This is his brief testimony:

"My name is Norby. I was born and grew up in Uzhgorod. Though I study at school I've already tried lots of bad things. One of the "Nova Nadiya" volunteers was giving lectures in our school. They told us about the camp and everyone was invited. But I had some fears about it. I thought that could be a bait and they would take us abroad for organ's transplantation.
Some of my classmates agreed to go and so did I. I thought the more of us went, the easier it would be to defend each other. I couldn't imagine that they would tell us about Jesus. Then I understood that it was an ordinary camp. I came back home not being taken for transplantation. I visited meeting in "Nova Nadiya" church and during the preaching understood that I am sinful, need repenting and choosing God's side. I made the decision and felt a big relief. I believed what Scripture says. God has accepted me and I became His child. God gave me great friends and they are my new family now"

Internet Ministry - its growing impact

New Hope's Internet Ministry grew in importance during 2011. Resources and books are made available to download or order. Training and evangelistic events are made known, but the most important growth has been in putting the Bible Corresponding Courses online, not as a substitute, but to compliment the mail program. In addition, a student study program (CBS) on the Gospel of John is now available in Ukrainian language.

Most importantly, the internet is now being used as a tool to mobilize church-based volunteers to be involved as online e-coaches to help people discover who Jesus is and respond to the message of salvation. In both the study and the evangelistic tools, online relationships with e-coaches, chat rooms, and follow-up events are used to build trust and relationship to help "explorers" find their way to Christ step by step. The goal is to help seekers find Christ and become involved in small study groups before they are introduced to local churches. In partnership with the "WhyJesus?" team in Holland, where the program was pioneered, we hope to launch it in Russian in 2011.

Parenting With Love and Logic

New resource in Ukrainian language beneficial for Family and Orphan Care ministry.

Psychiatrist Cline and educator Fay's "Love and Logic" parenting method advocates raising responsible children through practice. "Helicopter" parents hover around their children while "drill sergeant" parents give orders to theirs, they claim. Neither of these styles permits children to learn how to make choices and learn from the consequences. The result is that as early as adolescence these children too often make bad decisions. In the context of a healthy, loving relationship, "Love and Logic" parents teach their children responsibility and the logic of life by solving their own problems, providing skills for coping in the real world. After laying out the principles of "Love and Logic," the authors provide "parenting pearls," which are strategies for applying the method to actual situations such as back-seat battles in the car, homework, and keeping bedrooms clean.

Feedback:

“Several days ago I have got a book “Parenting with Love and Logic” that is published by “New Hope Ukraine”. It took me few days to “swallow” it. When I first read just the name of this book I thought that this is one of these books with boring advices from some experts of pedagogy, but when I just start reading it I found interesting and practical advices on how to teach children responsibility. Moreover a lot of examples from real lives are shown in “Pearls”, after reading those you understand that probably every family faces similar problems, but not all of us are able to solve them. I think that this book will be very useful for parents with younger children, because they will be starting process of disciplining already equipped. Even though authors of this book notify that parenting is not easy but they are also right that this process can be transform to thrill occupation.
In the most of Ukrainian families, moms are trying to guard their children almost till their marriage, so that is why this book might be real revelation for them. That is shy I will recommend this book to all my friends and relatives, so they also could understand that it is possible to raise responsible and success children only by letting them learn from their mistakes under our wise supervision.
Wish you good luck and gratitude for the great book!”
